Kirill, a failed Russian actor stuck in the US with an expired visa, learns that the film in which he had a small part has been nominated for an Oscar. On the day of the ceremony, he has to appear in a children's play, but he's willing to do anything to get on the red carpet. The theater director won't let Kirill leave, so after causing chaos backstage (including a fight with a mascot and an escape dressed as the Gingerbread Man), he storms the Oscars stage. But instead of the expected fame, he becomes a meme and risks deportation. However, a call from the Mosfilm casting director gives him hope that in Russia, his "disgrace" can be turned into fame.
