Lottery Robbery

Lottery Robbery

Lee and Maria run a gas station together. The gas station was featured on the news channel due to the frequent occurrence of lucky winners, and local people would line up every day to buy lottery tickets because of the high winning rate reported in the news. As a result, their gas stations have been doing brisk business recently. However, Maria decides to divorce Lee because he drank too much and often abusive after drinking.
Maria's divorce lawyer told Lee that if he wants to get out of jail for domestic violence, he would have to sign a divorce agreement with Maria. And he must relinquish ownership of the gas station. Lee signs the divorce papers and gives up the gas station. He asks to leave only six tickets to mark his six-year marriage to Maria. Lee scratches five tickets in front of Maria. None of them win. He walks away with the last one. Soon after Lee left the gas station, the station employee Cole, Lee's good friend, is fired by Maria. Cole's theft of tickets at work is captured on a camera Maria has hidden on the shelf.
Lee, depress, goes to a familiar bar for a drink to anesthetize his feelings for Maria. However, the bartender at the bar, disgusts by his domestic violence, treats him badly. When he asks the bar to continue to pour him a drink, he learns that Maria has taken his savings from the bar. Infuriated by Maria's callous behavior, Lee throws out the wedding photo he keeps in his wallet. Lee stumbles upon the last ticket left that morning, and since he is ready to give up on his cruel ex-wife, he does not hesitate to scratch the last ticket. To his surprise, the ticket is a real winner. Lee is struck with the idea of robbing his gas station. Meanwhile, Cole, who is also depressed because of being fired, is discussing the reason for his dismissal with his friend C.J., who points out that the gas station has a very high winning rate, and they only need enough lottery tickets to be sure to win the lottery, which is also the best revenge for Maria.
Because they don't know that the other has the same plans as they do. Lee arrives at the gas station wearing a helmet and is knocked unconscious by Cole and C.J. After Lee wakes up, the three realize that they are all planning to do the same thing, so they start scraping lottery tickets at the gas station. However, when the day began to break, the three men still get nothing. Lee, Cole, and C.J. took all the tickets away in case Maria found them when she came to the gas station in the morning. But in a hurry, they left some tickets behind. After the three men fled to Alabama, they scratch all the remaining tickets but didn't get any money.
Three men walk down the streets of Alabama in despair, afraid that the police will find out what they have done. Just as C.J. was trying to buy a snack at a roadside convenience store because he was hungry, they accidentally learn that a drunk old man had walked into the gas station after they had left. The drunk old man scratches off the part of the ticket they had left at the gas station and drew a $2 million ticket. But he was too excited to celebrate at the gas station and the drunk old man was caught red-handed by the police. In the end, they have nothing gained and nothing lost.

We Need Rent Money

We Need Rent Money

Synopsis: We Need Rent Money

Life is a party for three college kids: Larry, Fred, and Sanders until they flunk out of school and lose their financial aid. Now they have seven days to make $3,000 or get evicted. Fred vouches for Larry and gets him hired as an insurance salesman. Larry gets them both fired for taking their sales pitch over the top. Sanders goes to work for his father becoming Lil Sandpaper the rapper. After Sanders is assaulted at a concert, he discards his rapper persona and severs ties with his parents.

With no legitimate means of income, the dudes turn to desperate measures. Larry and Fred decide to sell weed for Fred’s drug dealer, White Wally. While Sanders decides to scam people over the phone with his girlfriend. Fred and Larry fail as dealers. Accidentally, they try to sell it to an undercover cop. Their failure draws suspicion from law enforcement. Later, Fred notices Sanders mid-scam; he tells Sanders to take the scheme elsewhere and Sanders rents out a storage unit with his girlfriend for their shady enterprise.

Fred and Larry decide to make pot brownies. Some of the brownies get eaten by their landlord Bill. Now Fred and Larry are in debt to their drug dealer and still behind on rent, causing them to dig themselves deeper into the hole by selling Molly for Wally. However, instead of making a profit, their landlord steals it. This theft causes their drug dealers to move into their apartments.

During a welcoming party for their new housemates, the dudes get an ultimatum from the drug dealers, “You guys must pay back or we are going to kill you.” After Sanders has an argument with his girlfriend, she quits the scams. So Sanders hires student scammers, but when Sanders finds out he's being investigated by the FBI, he ends the scam.

The cops believe Larry and Fred are the head of a major drug operation. The FBI is conducting surveillance on Sanders. Sanders lets Larry know he needs to get his laptop back due to some sensitive information on it, Larry tells him, “Sorry buddy, dealers are holding it as collateral.” Larry tries to get the laptop from them and he is beaten up. With their lives on the line, Fred sells one of his testicles. Larry sells a kidney and Sanders even gets waterboarded for a government experiment.

Still short of their monetary goal, the dudes come up with a plan to have one last party. The dudes want to go out with a bang. They invite all their enemies. This leads to a Mexican stand-off with the frat-boy, the cops, the FBI, and the drug dealers. The frat boys and the drug dealers are arrested. The dudes are evicted from their apartment. Sanders sends them a present of some of the dealer’s drugs. They sell the dope and part ways.

Five years later, the dudes are now men. They meet at a club to catch up on how their lives are going. Larry is a successful businessman, Fred is a family man and Sanders manages artists. Though they’re grown up, they still want to live in the past, so they smoke a joint outside the club. Their old landlord attempts to steal a joint from Sanders. The dudes, still upset that the landlord stole their drugs, beat him up.

As the movie ends, we see the surprise twist, the Dude’s girlfriends had taken their money and our protagonists never had a clue.

KEVIN

KEVIN

This absurd comedy opens with Marjorie, an attractive and elegant 50-something woman, lamenting the passing of her loved one, Kevin, to her friend, Billy Vera. Suddenly spotting her millennial neighbor, Kelly, and Kelly’s elderly, crochety father, Cal, as they pull up to their home, Marjorie races toward them with Billy in tow, anxiously attempting to lure them into attending Kevin's Celebration of Life event. Kelly finds herself caught between Cal's urging to get home and Marjorie's never-ending diatribe about Kevin being ostracized by his friends and then dying of a broken heart. Once Marjorie mentions that the Celebration of Life will include Jewish deli food and jazz combo entertainment, Kelly and Cal are in.

Upon entering the Celebration of Life, Cal is greeted by Marjorie and her nerdy niece, a 20-something young woman with high pigtails, clad in a baby doll dress and a headband with an enormous plush fish. She attempts to welcome Cal by placing an identical fish headband on his head, as he fights her off. Photos of Marjorie and Kevin in Japan, Italy, and Egypt adorn the home as we learn that Kevin was actually a goldfish and Marjorie’s beloved travel companion. In his quest for Jewish deli food, Cal witnesses one ludicrous conversation after another by Marjorie's equally anomalous friends and relatives.

With cocktail in hand, Cal takes refuge outside on Marjorie's porch. Relaxing on a lounge chair, he soon falls asleep. A sexy and alluring young woman in a yellow mermaid-style dress appears out of nowhere, presumably a party guest. She introduces herself as Devin and invites Cal to escape this nonsensical party and join her for a drink at The Castle Bar. Overjoyed, he awaits her return as she goes inside to retrieve her handbag. Suddenly, Cal's daughter, Kelly, is waking him up as the party is now over. Cal explains to a snickering Kelly that he cannot leave as he has a date with Devin at The Castle Bar. His prospective “dream” date is soon shattered as he is coerced to leave with Kelly. The porch is empty when a disappointed Devin returns looking for Cal.

AWKWARD ENDEAVORS

Awkward Endeavors charts the intersecting lives of three lonely men as they struggle to close the gap between themselves and the rest of the world.

AWKWARD ENDEAVORS
Running Time: 8:42
Genre: Dramedy

Fifteen years ago, The Minor Prophets and I convened to film our first collaboration, 4th and 99. It marked the beginning of a long and storied creative relationship. Today I’m proud to share our eighth effort, Awkward Endeavors.

This short is based on a scene from a feature screenplay written by David Amadio, Gil Damon and Steve Kuzmick. Our original intent was to shoot the full-length film this past year, in and around our Delco roots, however the pandemic halted those plans. We opted for the next best thing and selected a sequence that showcased these lonely male leads and the bizarre relationships between them.

A few special shout-outs – To Kathleen Kozak, for bringing the heart, soul and music to this project. To Nicole Py for joining the shoot after a last minute invitation, ensuring everyone looked fabulous. To Holly Kempf for her AMAZING poster design. And to Leah Gallo, for her patience through piano rehearsals with Des, filming in our home over the July 4th weekend, MULTIPLE viewings while in post-production and for your wonderful behind the scenes photography during the shoot (I’ll be posting photos in the coming days).

The Minor Prophets and I are still eager to film the feature version of Awkward Endeavors, but until that day, I hope you enjoy this deep dish slice.
